"My husband bought me a horse for my birthday. Neither of us knew anything about horses. At our boarding facility, my heart hurt every time I saw experienced riders yell or hit their horses. It was not how I wanted to treat my horse, Stella. Everyone had advice for me, and it was often about ways I should, in my opinion, abuse Stella to prove my leadership. On my second riding lesson, Stella began crow hopping with me on her back. Luckily, I stayed on. However, my fear of Stella grew exponentially.
Then, I met Tom. He treated Stella with respect. He taught me how to be safe around Stella. He acknowledged and respected my fear which gave me the strength to face my fear. Now, I have fun playing games with Stella, and I’ve started riding a different horse.
